Hey everyone! My name is Melinda, and I'm going to be a member of the class of 2011. :)

I just have a couple questions about banking on campus. I'm trying to figure out where I should open checking/savings accounts here in CA, and also considering how convenient each one will be once I get to Bryn Mawr. The only banks in the Bryn Mawr area that actually exist here in CA are Bank of America and Wachovia. Bank of America would be most convenient for me here, especially since that's where my dad has his account, but I don't want to have a hard time once I arrive on campus in August. There is only one Wachovia location near where I live (and a little inconveniently located at that), and we are unfamiliar with their services, though I've heard good things.

So I suppose my question is... which bank do you think is most convenient? Is there an ATM on campus that works with either of them? Any other thoughts on which is the best option? I would be getting the student accounts at either one, unless there's some reason why I shouldn't...

Thanks for any advice! I'm really looking forward to meeting all of you this fall! :D

Oh! I also had a quick question about Bryn Mawr Grants, but I'll put that under a cut.

Do Bryn Mawr Grants go down significantly each year? I was given a very generous grant, but I'm slightly concerned since I've heard that colleges usually reduce grants after the first year.

If my family's financial situation is more or less the same when I reapply for aid next year, how much can I expect the grant to decrease by? I know you guys aren't experts or prophets or anything, but if you know from experience whether the amount generally changes a lot or a little... I'd really appreciate the info! Thanks!

I'm posting this on both brynmawrcollege and brynmawr2011, so sorry if this shows up twice for you!

the ATM in the campus center is commerce bank. but the nearest actual commerce bank is in Haverford.

Of your choices, Wachovia is what I'd recommend. You wouldn't have an ATM on campus but the train station is seriously no more than a 5 minute walk away (on crutches) and there's a full bank and ATM there.
I can't really think of a Bank of America nearby.

Hey Melinda,

I'm c/o 2010 from so cal and when I arrived on campus, I just opened up a new account at Commerce Bank. It was really convenient because the ATM is on campus (plus, I didn't want to walk 5 minutes in the snow to get money @ Bank of America during the winter time). But it's really up to what you prefer. Commerce Bank seems to have a stronger relationship with BMC and HC kids though. I just work around not having the bank near me during breaks.

Regarding the question about the grants, realize that tuition goes up every year. Sad but true. I got my fin aid packet recently and my grant did go down a little, not a huge lot though. If money is a problem, just keep finding those outside scholarships or grants :) Hope that helps
